Owls
The Owls class are our Year 5 and Year 6 children taught by Mrs Stafford, along with teaching assistant Mrs Boulton. The Owls class are good role models for the younger children and have the opportunity to have many important leadership roles in school.
The children are taught a two-year rolling programme in this class. Maths, Reading, Spelling and Writing are taught daily. Science, PE, RE, Music and French are taught each week. Computing, PSHE, DT and Art are also taught across the terms. See Curriculum pages for further information on the content of all subjects.

Autumn |
Muck, Mess and Mixtures/ Star Gazers As scientists, the children develop their knowledge of states of matter and the properties of solids, liquids and gases. After half term, their focus shifts to the skies as they learn about space. As artists, they explore collage. |
Avening: at work, rest and play The children explore the fascinating history of our local area, as well as develop their skills as geographers using a range of maps and fieldwork. As engineers, they develop an understanding of how a cam system works, and explore forces as scientists. In art, our stimulus is the work of Lowry. |
Spring |
The Anglo-Saxons and Vikings As historians, the children learn about this period of British history, focusing on the concept of invasion. They also take a look at belief systems. In geography, the children become familiar with the location and characteristics of Scandinavia. As scientists, the children look at evolution and inheritance. |
Hola Mexico As historians, the children learn about the ancient Mayan civilisation, with a close look at social roles. The also explore the area of North and South America as geographers, including learning about the Ring of Fire. As scientists, the children deepen their understanding of electricity. |
Summer |
Doctor, Doctor As scientists, the children will learn about classification of species. They learn about the circulatory system, the importance of diet, exercise and lifestyles, as well as nutrients and water transportation in animals. In art, they produce portraits, developing drawing and painting skills. |
We are the Future As scientists and geographers, the children learn about biomes. The children also learn about life cycles and reproduction of plants and animals. |
